About the Total Impact Virtual Series

The COVID-19 pandemic has shone a light on the societal challenges and economic inequalities facing our most vulnerable populations, laying bare the need for private sector investment in solving these challenges. With the past decade of growth in impact investing coinciding with the longest bull market in history, many investors have questions about how impact products will perform during the period ahead. The Total Impact Virtual Series will tackle this question from a variety of angles and across asset classes.

Panel #3 | Mobilizing Donor-Advised Funds for Impact

Donor-Advised funds (DAFs) represent a significant and growing pool of capital, now totaling $120B. However, approximately 80% of DAF assets are still invested passively and do not immediately fulfill their charitable purpose. In the wake of unprecedented economic fallout from COVID-19 and racial justice protests across the country, there has never been a more urgent need to re-examine the role DAF capital can play in supporting local communities in need. Impact investing has increasingly been lifted up as a promising means to drive social progress through DAFs sustainably and at scale, yet a variety of preconceptions among donors and sponsors still limit widespread flow of DAF capital into impact investments. This panel shares best practices and lessons learned from their experiences facilitating impact investments through DAFs.

How is it possible that even with a pandemic, civil unrest, and the inability to meet clients in person, certain advisors are growing their assets and expanding their reach? In addition to providing the opportunity for investors to align their portfolios with their values, ESG and impact products have proven their downside protection and consistently outperformed the market in 2020. In this panel, several rising leaders in the advisor community will talk about how to gather assets with the story of impact, as well as emphasize detailed methods for implementation in portfolios.
