Rosh Hashanah at SOCAP13

Posted by on July 25th, 2013

We have discovered our conflict with Rosh Hashanah and deeply apologize for the impact and inconvenience it’s causing our Jewish community. While we realized the conflict after it was too late to undo this year, you can have great confidence that it will not happen again. We have worked to include observance of Rosh Hashanah at SOCAP13 through the below events.

In collaboration with Chabad of San Francisco, SOCAP will be honoring the Jewish High Holidays after Thursday morning’s plenary with Rabbi Yosef Langer for the sounding of the Shofar and sharing of honey cake.

Additionally, SOCAP attendees are invited to attend SOMA Shul services at HUB San Francisco on Wednesday night and other Rosh Hashanah services throughout the week. Services with Chabad of SF are designed to make everyone feel welcome and at home whether you consider yourself Reform or Conservative, Orthodox or unaffiliated, Sefardi or Ashkenazi, well-versed, unversed and universed. The prayers, conducted with Hebrew/English prayer-books, are lively, engaging and inclusive - spiced with inspiring tunes and insightful explanations throughout - allowing all to absorb the experience at their own level.

See here for a full list, and more information on how to RSVP.

SOCAP is honored to be partnering with Chabad of San Francisco. Chabad has been actively involved in our San Francisco HUB community for several years now - a favorite event being their ‘Rally Rabbi and The Kabballah of The Ball’ pre-game SF Giants gatherings at the HUB. Our SOCAP13 collaboration is a natural next step, and we invite you to learn more about SOMA Shul and the local opportunities that Rabbi Yosef Langer and Rabbi Shmulik Friedman offer to gather and celebrate Judaism.

Announcing the winners of SOCAP Open

Posted by on July 25th, 2013

After much deliberation (trust me when I say this was not an easy task) we are pleased to announce the winners of SOCAP Open! We are bringing 20 + fantastic sessions from Open to Fort Mason this year. This means approximately 1/4 of the programming at SOCAP will be 100% user-generated. We knew we had a fantastic community, and the overwhelming high-quality of the submissions and engagement just proved this ten fold.

The winners were selected from a combination of open public voting (30%), SOCAP program team votes (40%), and an advisory team (30%).

We want to give a special THANK YOU to everyone who took the time to review submissions and tell us what you want to see at SOCAP, but especially our SOCAP Open advisory team: Lisa Richter of GPS Capital, Nick & Jen of the wonderful and invaluable Triple Pundit, and the Hub’s event and programming queen, Kari Gray. They used their unique position in the field to help us narrow down 120+ submissions, giving every submission the attention it deserved.

In the end, we’re bringing 20 sessions as part of the Open track. Additionally, Health, Oceans, Faith, and Meaning all reached out to pull sessions from Open directly into their tracks bringing the total contribution of SOCAP Open to 26 sessions. This just proved the value of opening up and finding unexpected gems that our experienced programming team couldn’t imagine NOT being at SOCAP. This was one of our favorite surprises of this first, formal experiment in participatory conference planning.

Check out the top 20 over at SOCAP Open. And if you participated in SOCAP Open, either through submitting, commenting, or voting, please accept a hearty thanks from the whole SOCAP team! It’s really an honor to convene this diverse group every year here in San Francisco, and it was really special opening up and planning the convening with your help.

1st Episode of ‘The Pivot Point’ June 26th, 11am PST

Posted by on June 20th, 2013

The Pivot Point highlights the journey of people that are in transition and facing a choice. We connect them with mentors, peers, and experienced domain experts to explore life, work, and business choices. Through exploration and dialog, we will paint a picture of their lives, sketch possible future scenarios, and start to discover what it means to place work and livelihood in harmony with our desire for meaning.

The first installment of Pivot Point will explore the life of Anita Chung. After working for several years in supply chain management for a major global manufacturer, she realized she was part of something with which she could not live.
