Tech Solutions for engaging the African Diaspora
Rashida Petersen , DIA Fund
Black people are seldom part of the conversation when it comes to giving. Besides the church, we do not get asked in the same way to contribute to growth of our own communities, however the global African Diaspora has a long history of informal giving to the community. In 2015, $36 billion in remittances were sent to sub-Sahara Africa. Isn't it time to disrupt the philanthropic landscape? Join us, for a talk that explores ways to make the who and how of giving to Africa more inclusive and impactful.

DIA Fund recently launched a hybrid philanthropy platform to crowd fund from the African Diaspora to vetted non-profits in their own home countries. We have launched a recent pilot with the Mastercard Foundation to test the platform. We have spoken at SXSW and sponsored the first ever Africa House and attending Skoll around this past year speaking on this topic.

The time is now for this idea/plan to evolve into reality! Not only will I support it - but engage in a way that brings others! Our Diaspora IS a winner!
This is a fantastic idea. I hope you are selected.
This is an excellent workshop idea - eager to review the links and hopeful it is selected!
Thank you Megan! We think it would be cool to share our experiences with Diaspora solutions and get additional feedback on how to engage at a local level. Sometimes it is small and steady over time that has the greatest impact! Thank you for your support.
