Promoting Impact Investing in Small Markets
Michelle Arevalo Carpenter, IMPAQTO
Impact enterprise and investment have the potential to solve our biggest challenges. However, some ecosystems, for example, Mexico and Brazil in Latin America, have attracted more impact investment and have more dynamic ecosystems than other, smaller markets in the region, like Ecuador, that are not typically referred to in the impact investing field. However, the majority of countries in Latin America and in fact the world are smaller markets. This panel explores how and in what forms impact investing make sense in these smaller markets, drawing on the experiences and perspectives of active impact investors in smaller markets such as Guatemala, Ecuador and Peru. This Panel will also connect the dots with other initiatives in the region this year, namely an impact investing ecosystem study led by IMPAQTO, with IADB-MIF support, and the South America focused impact investing event CLIIQ - the Latin American Impact Investing Summit in QUITO, co-hosted with Endeavor and NEXUS Sept 27-28.
