Managing for Impact in Public Equity Investing
Justin Fier, Pacific Community Ventures
Academic studies suggest that companies addressing social and environmental challenges outperform in the long run, even so most impact investors focus on smaller companies through private equity and debt. The GIIN’s 2017 Impact Investor Report noted only 16% of impact investors are seeking impact via public securities. Yet without deploying impact capital in public markets, we will not close the funding gap to address the most pressing global issues. This panel will focus specific attention on the unique opportunities and challenges public equity investing presents. We will also explore the critical role of a rigorous approach to impact management including assessing linkages to SDGs and understanding investor contribution.
