People-Powered Capital Track Sponsored by MicroPlace

SOCAP and MicroPlace are working together because we believe in people-powered capital. Incredible impact can happen when we pool our resources and work together to fund solutions for a better world. MicroPlace enables you to make investments in the fight against worldwide poverty—a $300 billion problem. While daunting, raising and effectively distributing that kind of capital to the people who need it is indeed possible.

Join us at SOCAP11 to investigate how on-line and off-line trends are democratizing the capital markets – changing how we access capital and consider our individual power to make an impact. We’ll examine three different trends that are emerging with people-powered capital, as well as the future of this movement.

INTRODUCING TRACK CURATOR: REBECCA PETZEL

Hi - I’m Rebecca Petzel and I work with Groupaya: a new kind of consultancy where we empower groups of people to realize their collective intelligence and maximize collective impact. Since 2008 I’ve been studying how on-line, collaborative communities are out-performing and supplanting our old institutional paradigms in efforts to save the world. I’ve helped set up and manage new crowdsourcing communities, and worked with large corporations to help them move past old institutional models towards open, collaborative working styles.

My work is all about creating people-powered mindsets, and no where is this more needed than in the capital markets. I’m excited to explore the future of People-Powered Capital and how we can create a movement to take impact investing to the next level - together.
