The dark side of impact measurement
Kendall Park, Princeton University
There's no denying the importance of impact measurement. In addition to attracting investors, funders, and partnerships, impact measurement helps you plan for the future. Measuring outcomes is important, but it's also a daunting process. With dozens of criteria to choose from - like ESG, B Corp, and IRIS metrics, just to name a few - it's hard to know where to begin. Often, social entrepreneurs believe that implementing social and environmental metrics will make their business more impactful, when in reality it can distract from core goals and threaten the central mission of an organization. What is the most effective way to employ measurement systems? In this session, I will assemble a panel of speakers to debate different approaches to impact measurement. We will discuss how to choose the right metrics for your organization, how to incorporate measurement into your business plan, and how to use metrics to plan for the future.
