Paradigm shift needed: from Climate Mitigation to Climate Adaptation

Ben Sandzer-Bell, CO2 Bambu

SOCAP has for years created a platform for environmental impact entrepreneurs to connect with social impact investors. The push for Climate Mitigation resulted in the emergence of a huge "Cleantech" industry, based on the supply of products and services that help to reduce carbon emissions. This focus, while it continues to represent a worthy focus, is no longer enough. All scientific data points to our collective failure to slow down the advent of "extreme weather". It is now urgent for SOCAP to initiate a space for dialogue between impact investors and "Climate Adaptation Entrepreneurs". This panel offers to present several businesses whose value proposition is to enable Disaster Resilience through Climate Adaptation and to address the prospect of a future "AdaptTech" industry, just like the focus on Climate Mitigation resulted in a large Cleantech industry.

Hey Ben, look at this: look at the tool deck and the pph deck. http://bioculturalresilience.wordpress.com/

    Hi Ben,

Have you spoken with Kevin? You are thinking along very similar lines at the moment. I am sure tqhey may be much more interest in this panel…I agree with Rebecca that leaving this open for a collaborative session build might be a good idea…if indeed that is what she meant!

I see you chose a panel format. As you propose trying to catalyze more serious action from the SOCAP community, I wonder if you’ve considered bringing in some interactivity with the community?

Thanks for pushing this important discussion forward!
