Investing with Purpose: Building Sustainable Livelihoods for Coffee Farmers
Rachel Serotta, Root Capital
Coffee is the second-most traded commodity globally. While the demand for ethically- and sustainably-sourced products grows exponentially, coffee is grown by smallholder farmers living near or below the poverty line under challenging circumstances. With 80% of the world’s coffee being produced by ~25 million smallholders, supporting farmers to grow high-quality products and linking them to the specialty coffee value chain is critical. This panel will explore how major stakeholders like Starbucks, Morgan Stanley and Root Capital are creating solutions that ensure that farmers can not only survive but thrive and enabling investors interested in addressing these challenges to take action.
