India vs. America: Who Does Impact Investing Better?
Kartik Desai, Asha Impact
India and the United States – the world’s two largest democracies – are both major hubs for social innovation and global leaders in impact investment. But despite the strong linkages between the two, there remains considerable divergence in how impact investing is defined and approached in their respective contexts. We propose to have a robust discussion between leading social investors, innovators and thought leaders, with deep domain knowledge of both markets, to understand what can the two communities learn from each other. How is the practice of impact investment in India similar to or different from the US? Is it an issue of different mindsets and/or fundamental structural factors? How does this matter? And what can we learn from each other? The session will bring together some of the biggest names in the sector to help identify best practices from each side and work towards a common lexicon that allows social innovators and investors in both North and South to work together for the common good while creating a truly global impact investment market.
