Financing a Food Waste Free Future: Emerging approaches to funding solutions
Chris Cochran, ReFED
Food waste is an enormous problem that presents unprecedented opportunity to achieve social, environmental, and economic benefits. Existing solutions could cut U.S. food waste by 20 percent, conserving natural resources, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, creating jobs, and feeding the hungry. ReFED’s analysis shows that these solutions would generate $100B in economic value – but require an investment of $18B from government, philanthropic, and private sector sources. This panel will explore the critical role of finance in effecting large-scale food waste reduction, tapping experts from the impact investment, philanthropic foundation, and food waste innovation sectors to examine traditional and emerging approaches being used to fund solutions.
