Crowdfunding for Wealthy Philanthropists and Investors

Doug Balfour, Geneva Global

We realized that the most social transformation was going to come through the collective impact of clustering implementing organizations and creating integrated donor funds where private donors could work together to achieve bigger goals that they could on their on. We created the END Fund- aiming at bringing $100m to controlling up to 7 neglected diseases in Africa- end.org. It was so successful we are planning to launch 2 more funds in 2013 and are looking at a blended capital fund of both grants and debt/equity using the same principles.

Excuse the smiley, I thought it was perhaps friendlier !?

Nice session. Makes me think of an inverse:

Its nice to see good things grow, this ‘headache’ could be fun, engaging, and edifying all at the same time.

Value in terms of your idea would definitely come from a feedback network of informed members. This ‘refinement through communication’ is a valuable asset of any network. As more people converge in these clusters the position for transnational legislative development becomes connectively stronger, something to think about. Also, by establishing community core in these areas you lower the bar of entry for wavering potential philanthropic investors to step into a more accomodating scenario :)

Really glad to see you all pushing thinking forward on collective impact approaches, bringing it past traditional philanthropy into the Impact Investing world. This is important work, and I’d love to hear more about how it’s going.

I was also happy to see you’ve proposed this as an interactive workshop! Curious to hear more about what we’d be working on in the workshop?
