Hub Ventures, Excelerate Labs, MuckerLab & DreamIt Announce New Startups

The startup accelerator scene is booming, and that means there will be days like today, when a bunch of news from the various incubators around the country hits all at the same time. Today, we’ve got the details from several of the newer programs, some of which are announcing their new spring classes, others which are wrapping up with demo days. The result, in either case, is that there are now dozens upon dozens of new companies making their grand debut today, across a number of verticals that include everything social networking to health care.

Launch of the Social Impact Exchange’s 2012 Business Plan Competition

October 12th, 2011

The Competition identifies social sector scaling initiatives with demonstrated impact and readiness to scale, and supports the winners with financial and consulting awards. U.S.-based nonprofit organizations with a focus in education, youth development, health, poverty alleviation and community economic development are eligible to enter. The Competition accepts applications from nonprofits that are scaling an organization, program, collaborative, policy initiative, media and advocacy campaign, social movement or marketplace solution. The Competition is sponsored by Growth Philanthropy Network, Duke University, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the Rockefeller Foundation. The deadline for entry is December 9, 2011. The William James Foundation’s Sustainable Business Plan Competition offers a total of $150,000 worth of services & cash to the best new for-profit plans with social and/or environmental goals. Entrants can be any age or anywhere in the world, but must be starting or growing for-profit companies that are either pre-revenue, or are within five years of their first revenues. All entrants who are accepted into the competition receive an average of 20 pages of feedback around. Deadline for 5-8 page summaries is Oct. 12.
