Venture Beat asks, “Will social capital be the next big industry to emerge?”

Thursday, October 30th, 2008

Chris Morrison of Venture Beat wrote an interesing piece exporling the emerging phenomena of blended value business in the context of SoCap08 and Good Capital.

“While most philanthropic ventures still operate solely as non-profits, there’s a growing niche for the new breed. That’s because, as Elizabeth Funk of Unitus put it while speaking at the conference, “greed is one of the fundamental drivers of humanity.” For-profit businesses have a drive that was long ago lost in the sprawling bureaucracies of traditional aid groups.”

Greed as a potential driver of good - agree or disagree?

Introducing the SoCap08 Blog Team

Thursday, October 9th, 2008

Over the last several days, I’ve been putting together an informal blog team of people who plan to write about next week’s conference.

We are inviting SoCap08 attendees to write about their experiences on the conference floor and in the sessions.  We’re also inviting bloggers who are watching SoCap08 unfold from afar.

Our goal is to provoke a distributed conversation about the current state and potential of social capital markets. We’ll be using the SoCap08 blog to disseminate frequent round-ups of blog entries that talk about the issues raised at SoCap08.

We’re expecting the conversation will take place on many blogs and in many forums, including the NextBillion.net blog and the All Things Reconsidered blog over at JustMeans.

Below is a list of people who have confirmed they will be submitting at least one blog entry before, during or following SoCap08.
