Beginnings of a marketplace

Sunday, October 19th, 2008

A great Acumen fund blog post by Sue Yun Chi says she saw a market forming in the hallways at Socap08. That was our goal and hope, so it’s nice to see some astute folks think we achieved it.

She tells the story of the conference really well:”

I arrived in San Francisco with a sense of foreboding from the current financial crisis, but it took only a moment at the Social Capital Markets conference in sunny San Francisco to change my outlook on the future. Although the conference may have started with 650 individuals with different agendas, what transpired over the course of the conference was a movement toward a cohesive social capital marketplace. As the second day drew to a close, I came away with a sense of inspiration and optimism.”

Each session will have a blogger

Friday, October 10th, 2008

The amazing team of bloggers Rob Katz of Next Billion.net has gathered is going to be blogging each session at Socap. “Each guest blogger has agreed to cover a panel session, ranging in title from Design in the Developing World to Successful IT Initiatives to Market Creators.  Francisco and I will handle the plenary talks as well as a few sessions (I’ll be moderating the Venture Philanthropy and International Government Investment panel as well), ” Rob writes.

If you’re headed to SoCap, chime in below and let us know – we’d love to meet up while we’re there.  Keep us posted on what you think of the sessions – who was on track, who off the mark, etc.  And if you’re unable to join us in San Francisco, please let us know which panel sessions are important for you to hear about – we’ll do our best to tailor our coverage to the needs of you, the NextBillion reader.”

That pretty much blows me away.
