Tamzin has worked both in South Africa and internationally in financial services for more than 20 years. She established Funding SA, a social investment services consultancy and created the first South African online social development networking platform GreaterGood South Africa which has raised some R18 million in direct financial support from individuals, 5.8million surplus product items and more than 75,000 hours of volunteer time and skills. In 2006 Tamzin established the South African Social Investment Exchange (SASIX) to facilitate performance-based philanthropy and social investment whilst also leveraging larger-scale external investment in social financial offerings. SASIX has raised over R20 million in social finance and R70 million in financial investment. For the past eighteen months, Tamzin has focused on establishing The Global Federation of Social Investment Exchange – GSIX, an independent federation of national and regional social investment exchanges. The federation aims to provide these exchanges and their ancillary service providers, including brokers, analysts, and finance intermediaries, a global body to guide and grow global support for credible, vetted NGOs and social enterprises; a member-run federation to set, monitor and disseminate standards for impact; a voice to policy makers, the media, and the public on the power, range, and results of the social economy; and a key deliberating body on regulations and transnational social investment. A ground services component and growth fund will facilitate the establishment of other country exchanges worldwide.
